The Wilkinson-type power divider has been an integral part of RF and microwave transmission technology since its inception in the early 1960s. That technological innovation, which allowed microwave and RF signals to be separated, transmitted and recombined with unprecedented levels of high isolation and low loss, led to the development of the first generation of ham and citizen’s band (CB) radios.
Earlier this year, MECA Electronics announced they had developed a 2-Way Broadband Power Divider that could operate across 2.00 – 8.00 GHz frequencies with finely tuned levels of amplitude and phase balance previously found only in narrowband products. In that announcement, company officials indicated their intentions to follow up with a 4-Way extension to the Series by Summer, 2026.
The new Directional DC – Passing/Blocking Power Divider from MECA will allow Engineers to design fail-safe system redundancies that pass up to 1000 volts of DC current at 1 amp through the same circuit they use to transmit their high-quality RF signals while blocking DC flowing in the opposite direction.
